What is happening with TAG classes at East?
We have worked for two years analyzing the strengths of offerings in TAG and AP programming. In November 2008, East parents initiated a charge to redefine TAG classes as Honors and set a vision for accelerated learning at East.
What are we doing?
Having conversations with students and staff around TAG, Honors, and AP programming.
Forming a task force including parents, students, teachers, and university representation to study the data within our school, district, and beyond to propose a vision for accelerated learning East.
By the fall of 2010, we will
Change the label of courses from TAG to Honors.
Define the learning that occurs in Honors and AP classes
Increase the number of AP courses offered at East
Create as much access as possible for students who desire Honors and AP challenges.
Build enrollment in Honors and AP classes
Ensure students are well prepared for ACT and AP testing
What will be different?
Instead of TAG classes, we will have Honors classes . Ex: TAG Biology will become Honors Biology
We will have more AP offerings.
Course criteria will be defined by indicators of rigor within each content area.
The Honors enrollment process will be different from the current TAG application process.
What will continue?
We remain committed to East High students and families.
Courses already clearly defined will continue to be offered
